Week Before the Super Bowl Stats of the Week

Stat of the Week no. 1: The Super Bowl has been a rematch of a regular-season game 12 times.  The loser of the first game has won the sequel seven times.

Stat of the Week no. 2: The Patriots have allowed an NFL-worst 89 plays of 20-yards or more.  In addition, they have allowed 17 pass plays of 30-yards or more, which is also an NFL-worst.

Stat of the Week no. 3: The Patriots and Giants feature defenses that are statistically the worst defenses in Super Bowl history (in terms of yard per game allowed).  The Pats cover their porous defense with the second-best offense in Super Bowl history (only the 1984 Miami Dolphins averaged more yards per game).

Stat of the Week no. 4: Super Bowl XLVI (46) is the first one in which both starting quarterbacks have won the SB MVP award (Brady - 2, Manning - 1).

Stat of the Week no. 5: Since 2000, teams seeded fourth or lower in the playoffs have made it to the Super Bowl six times, matching the total from the previous 25 years.
